Can arc welding weaken magnets ?

I am wondering about arc welding(DC) can hurt the magnets. I'm about to do a small repair on the frame close to the engine,
and would like to hear your opinion. Thanks.

Actually it would be around the other way, if welding to close to something that is magnetized, it stuffs up the weld, Called magnetic arc.

Thanks Frank. I've read about that phenomenon but its about 3 feet from the transmission so I don't think that will be a problem.
I am more concerned with the current flowing thru the frame/engine. But Im maybe overthinking the possible danger of demagnetising .

Just make sure that your earth clamp is next to your weld area and all will be good.

I welded up a crack in the frame and put on a reinforcement right at the place where the crankcase ear is bolted to the frame. That was almost 30 years ago and the frame has not cracked again and the magneto still works.
