26-27 Lower Metal channel door glass

Hi, I finally got door glass for my 27 coupe, and and trying to get it to go up and down. I'm curious what the original channel looked like (mine was gone). Is the reproduction part accurate? it doesn't seem to trap the regulator arm "roller" in it.

That does not look right to me. The 26-27 coupe door is the same as the 28-29 model A pickup door. My experience is the model A door parts are correct and better quality than what most of the model T vendors sell.

thanks.

I cut off the angle piece that was spot welded on, and moved it up about 1/8" inch, so it's parallel to the glass, and welded it back on. It seems to work now.

of course I cracked the glass taking the channel off....and it takes a long time for folks to get around to cutting glass, around here, so I'll probably just leave the cracked piece in the car for now.

Jim,

I believe it should work fine since it uses a gravity load and hold. I would just make sure the arm stays parallel as it goes up and down.

With the new vertical channels, the glass doesn't just drop down...gravity won't hold it in place. And I don't like to rely on gravity to hold things in place over bumpy roads, either.

We'll see how it works with the slight modification I made.

Sure would be nice to see an original part, though.

Can fabricate you some "L's" if needed to retain the bottom section, just tack weld. I know, some repro stuff is..., crap.

Just your thread. I guess you are asking about the piece on the bottom of the glass? There is a stack of nos windows behind my milling machine. I will look and see if one is there. Dan

Why not buy the correct part?

I thought I had bought the correct part, it doesn't work. So I made it work.

Call me old fashioned.... :)

Here is a picture of tag on one NOS window I have. As you can see it fits 23-25 Fordor and coupe. There several windows like it and a few that are different size but no tag.

What size are you looking for? Dan

Thanks. The 27 coupe door windows are about 25.5" wide, and 20" tall. The top is tapered.

Jim: The window regulator channel on my unmolested, unrestored '26 coupe with original glass appears similar to your modified part. The 'roller' is captive in the channel formed by the glass edge support and the 'L' piece. The 'L' piece is 12.25" long and begins 6" rearward of the forward edge of the glass. I took a poor quality photo that I will send in reply to a message sent to 6 zero 7-five 9 two-four 8 8 two. Best, jb

Thanks for the picture, James. It looks pretty close to what I have, at least the part where the regulator and channel connect, works the same way. Looks like the 26 has a single lower stop in the middle, while the 27 has one at each end of the channel.

So others can see:

Jim: The single stop and bumper in the pic is pretty beat up, the coupe had a 1943 plate on it when I got it in 1967. I think the T spent its life on gravel roads in central Wisconsin.
