I've heard that the only "vehicle number" that a Model T had was the number that was stamped on the engine block. On my 1926 Canadian built Touring, I just realized that there is a number stamped on the engine side of the cowl. This number (T1768) is different than the number that is stamped on the engine (C632543). My assumption here is that the number on the cowl is a body number with the "T" indicating a touring model. Is my assumption correct here? Is this a Canadian feature or do all Ts have a body number in addition to the number that is stamped on the engine. If this is the case, how would I verify that my Model T is a "matching numbers" vehicle? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most of us do not own Model T built in Canada. I will only offer that the standard format for a lot of parts was a T followed by a very short number. So if I were to guess here and I am - that is a part number or inventory number since by the time of your vehicle the engine numbers were already many digits. You need to talk to some Canadian owners of Model T's made in Canada.

The engine number is also stamped on the frame just under the passenger door.

My 1926 Australian T assembled in the Western Australian Fremantle Assembly Plant has a “A” coded number
in that exact position. Mine also has a metal tag riveted it the dash adjacent to the ignition switch which, unfortunately
can’t be read.
