Quadrant rivets

I'm replacing the spark and gas levers:
I've filed the heads off the bottom side of the quadrant rivets but can't seem to knock them out. Is there a secret to doing this?

Most likely a bigger hammer and a real good steel drift - I've always taken the tops off - easier to pound down !

Grind the underside rivet flush, then you can see the circle of the rivet shank.

Center punch the center. Sometimes a twist drill is needed to drill down about 1/4" or so.

Then punch out with drift that will fit into your drilled pilot hole. Lots of times they loosen up with just the center punch. ;)
Of course having the column locked tight in a vise gives solid fixture to apply the hammer, no lost of energy.

Well,....I guess it's me that's confused, as I was just reading something about the quadrant that's riveted to the frame for the emergency brake lever pawl to engage,......sorry,.....harold :oops:

I'd not like to be changing out control levers with the steering column still in the car! Might be do-able in an open car with the top down, but re-riveting the steering case and the little levers on the control rods would be a real task, even if you could get them off while still in the car.

When I did my '25, I wanted the exact appearance of the original rivets, so I drove the rivets out from the bottom, and had two turned down to the original size. As I recall, I had to bend each rivet slightly to get it to go through the bottom hole.

The column is out of the car.
The heads are ground off the bottoms of the rivits.
I'll try drilling down a little bit.
What's the correct terminology for the notched semi-circle under the steering wheel that controls the motion of the spark and gas levers?
