Has anyone had a mag short out from what I think is band lining and oil touching the post ?My mag failed and after checking the switch and replacing it found this at the contact point For the post. All connections were good and still no voltage. I cleared that goo away and all is ok now.

I've had it happen a couple of times over the years. Wire will short it out too- look closely in the mirror

I was driving at a steady speed and it shut off completely. Restarted on battery fine but didn’t run anymore on mag. I’m just happy it wasn’t the mag that failed.

Just completed a full restoration on a 1927 touring car. With less than 100 miles on the car the mag quit. The mag post looks like Bill's. I disassembled the post, wiped it out good, and the mag started working again. I could not see any metallic debris inside the post, but it looks like the perfect debris catcher.

It’s in the FORD instruction manuals as one of the first things to check.

I switched to Kevlar bands and ever since then, no strings shorting out my mag post.
