Cool old TT with a neat story....

Post by Corvette Guy » Sat Aug 08, 2020 10:24 pm

One of my friends called me to go look at his friend's 1925 TT. It was pretty cool and It's been in the family for 90 years or so and they have a signed title from the owners great grandfather from 1936. There is a set of benches in the back that they used to take kids to school, back in the day. It last ran in about 30 years ago.

The gas tank setup is kind of strange. If you look you can see where the fill hole was moved from the center of the tank to where it is now. The firewall has holes in it for the coil box but I'm guessing they changed it to the later engine bay style due to the gas tank. Any idea why someone would do this, other to maybe go up and down hills better?

It has some sort of auxiliary transmission that he thought was a 3 speed. It had a starter, generator and water pump. There were some bailing wire choke cables and the carb adjustment was wired in place. It had dismountable wheels with metal felloes. The cab looked like it was made with 2x6 planks. The roof was covered in sheet metal. There was a turn buckle between the front fenders, I'm guessing to keep them from rattling. The owner said they clocked it at 17mph when it last ran. He said the red thing on the side was some sort of flare.

In all, it is a super cool old time capsule.

That is neat. I bet there’s still a few folks around who rode to school in it as kids.

Would the re-located gas tank make it an Improved Truck? ;) I wonder if they had some long, steep grades to pull, and it was a solution to a problem...

There is a LOT to like about that truck - hope they're planning on getting her running again.

That is a stock oval tank - what you are referring to as the filler being moved to the end was actually where the original sediment bulb would have been - you're looking at the bottom.

Great old TT truck. I wonder why they did not get a good used round gas tank and turn the mounting straps 90 deg instead of relocating the oval tank openings ? But then I guess it was cheaper to fix what you have at that time.
