Kingston 5 Ball for 1909
I posted a couple pics of the new caps for this a week or two ago, thought I post a pic or two of it done and off to the owner. It had been whacked with a wrench, a hammer and whatever else, lotsa bruises that hadn't healed on their own, took a little massage to get it looking good.
There is always some controversy over the air inlet tube and design. This is how it came in except the hat was squished flat. This is how it goes out. Right or wrong, correct or not, it went away.

Like most men, fancy diamonds and jewelry don't excite me much. But a perfectly cleaned up and operational brass carburetor ? Now, that really turns my crank !
Bravo, Stan !

It is always a treat to see things we will never have or clean up that nicely.
I feel I owe something to just look at it but......
I'm perpetually in awe of you accomplishments.

When did I do that?

Re: Kingston 5 Ball for 1909
Stan...does it have some other designation other than 1909, Kingston 5 ball? Anything different about it other than the air intake?
Fun never quits!

Not that I know of. The air intake varies from year to year but the body of the carb is the same as near as I can tell. The later ones also added a butterfly choke but that is also part of the air intake.

Re: Kingston 5 Ball for 1909
So how does the 5 ball compare to later Kingston's as far as performance?
Give an old car guy a barn and he won't throw anything away.

Re: Kingston 5 Ball for 1909
I have ran a Five Ball for over twenty years on my 1910 and 1911 and have worked well for me. Rebuilt them with a Brass float and new needle and seat.

Re: Kingston 5 Ball for 1909
I was using a brass float but have some new synthetic material I like better which can be shaped like the original cork float.
I make a needle of my own design that uses the original seat. I do not like drilling out the original seat to put a modern type seat in.
Most of those do not pull the needle open as this design does.
But there are lots of ways to do it, mine is just one way.
