t coils

Post by donald4ham » Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:21 pm

other than holding the coils and capacitor in place, does the tar in the coils serve another purpose?

I'm going to propose two other purposes. One, the tar would be a reasonably good insulator, and help prevent arcing. Two, it would provide a pretty good heat sink. I've had hot tar dropped on me, and can testify it holds heat longer than you'd expect.

All those reasons. Trust me, I tested coils in car before pouring the tar in and one arced badly and filled with smoke.
