Timer... "Ain't Nobody Got Time for That."

So, I purchased some parts from the vendors for the day timer with a bushing.
I greased the felt to help stop leaking?
The pin would not go into camshaft hole unless I screwed down the nut some.
When I turned the hand crank, things started looking bad.
Is the felt the wrong size?

Your cam nut is fitted with a modern seal, forget about the felt and the disc.

You mentioned in your first post that the felt was installed to help stop leaking. Was it leaking? If it was leaking the seal needs replacing.
Since you have a modern seal installed it takes the place of the felt and felt cover.

Yes, ditch the felt and disk. If the seal is leaking, replace it with a new one installed with Ultra Black or other good sealant behind it. It won't hurt to put a little grease on the shaft to help the new seal slide into place.

This is a new seal and I obviously don't know what I'm doing. Felt removed.

Yes, it ran out of oil. Hope to put some in there this year... for the first time.

Hey Varmint!
This is how we learn about the old ‘100 year old technology’ cars. T’s were meant to have maintenance checks pretty often more than we are use to with our newer cars. People didn’t drive as far or long as we do now.
We all learn things about T’s from time to time. A 100 mile trip in a T can be compared to a 500-1000 mile trip today. Good luck with your T and have fun driving it! Checking the oil and routine cleaning of the timer people got use to doing since it was something that Ford recommended be done.

As far as leaking goes Fords new T’s in showrooms had pans or sheets of material to catch occasional oil drips. It’s just the way they were.

We are talking about timers and oil, however...
Our "New Day Timer" says "no oiling".
I'm assuming that is still true by today's standards.

YES! Oil is a carbon brushes worst enemy. Just keep it clean..I still love and prefer my TW timers but they too need cleaned every oil change. No big deal to do it and I've never had a car run so smooth.

Just another maintenance item. The original roller timers were good but eventually made a mess after a while because of the oiling maintenance that came with them. They had an oil access cap on them. Over time if you didn’t clean up the area it got pretty grimy and dirty.

The New Day was an improvement in that area because it didn’t need excessive routine oiling and only a little cleaning like yours. Now days WD40 will clean them up pretty well or using fine sandpaper to lightly and evenly sand them. Steve Jelf has a forum post how to clean one up if it needs more attention than yours.

I have no idea how it got so clean. Just handed to the wife and that's the way I got it back, with screws in place. She threw away the old steel ones.

I’ll bet she may have used an S O S pad. With the soap that’s in them and the fine steel wool they make a great cleaning and polishing pad.
