Thanks for that story.
That guy called me a couple of years ago when I had an ad for some parts I wanted for an NRS car. He said he was in Reno and his dad had died and he had to clean out the house. The parts were going in a dumpster the next day. I needed to act quickly!
I didn't bite on that one. Seems to be the same guy.

Awhile back it was a woman whose husband had died and she had to sell quick. The ads appeared in multiple venues and had SCAM written all over them.

Guys like this have always been around. All that's changed is the technology.
35 or 40 years ago I was Director of Facilities and Operations in an elementary school district here in CA Central Valley. I was there for 7 years. One item we used a lot of was F40 CW Fluorescent light tubes.
Every spring (when the new budget was adopted) I'd get a telephone call from a guy I've never met. He knew my name and talked like we were close longtime friends. He'd start out with, "How's the weather there", "Done anything fun lately?". and so on. Then he'd explain to me that they (I was never sure who "they" were) were having a big sale on light tubes. In anticipation of my order he wanted my address so he could send a new microwave oven to my wife. "Wouldn't she love that?". What he wanted was a school district purchase order number so he could bill and order of grossly overpriced light tubes.
Every year I would respond, "Please send me a copy of your price list and available products. I'll be happy to look it over and consider your firm. If I should place an order and there is a gift microwave offered with that order please do not send it to my home. Instead, please send it to the Home Economics Department of our middle school."
Every year he ended up hanging up on me.d

So, ... let me get this straight ....
There are people out there who will misrepresent themselves and/or offer
misrepresented items that may or may not exist, in some effort to gain financial
advantage for themselves ?
When did this start happening ?

OK Steve, I'll bite. What's the significance of Tuesday March 19, 1957 at 4:32 PM?

Just a date I picked at random to be silly. What really happened that day wasn't at 4:32 PM, but in the morning. I was in my tenth grade English class, and we were reading an account of how the Aircraft carrier Franklin was hit by two 500 pound bombs from a Japanese bomber, was saved by the crew, and returned to Pearl Harbor under its own power. The battle took place on March 19, 1945, and one of my classmates noted, "Hey, that's the same date as today."

If I lived that close and he in fact did live at that address, I think I would have to stop by and help him "understand" that he needed to pay his $750.00 debt to Hank. Just sayin

Hmmm....I read the comments on the AACA forum and learned something new. I'd never thought of doing a google search by image. I tried it and it worked very well. A good way to find out if the pictures are legit or from another source (ebay ad, forum posting, whatever.)
