It is my understanding that the herringbone parking, the angled-parallel nose-in parking used in all shopping centers, was first introduced in September 1917 at the New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY by the New York State Police in the year they were founded.

Such a simple idea isn't owing to a single inventor. I'm sure countless people thought of it over the years.
