Exhaust Deflector Output

Anyone else have the exhaust deflector sold by Lang's installed on their T? I installed one with my new muffler/pipe because the idea of reducing the amount of black soot accumulating on the spare tire+license plate+rear of the car was too appealing to pass up given the price of the mod, but the resulting arrangement has my rear differential/rear axle getting blasted with hot exhaust gases. I'm concerned this could impart long term damage to my rear diff/axle, as it probably wasn't designed to be subjected to such heat.

Could it be that the muffler placement relative to the rest of the car varies by Model T trim? My car is a 1922 Center Door.

I'm probably going to remove it, but would love to hear if anyone else has similar experience. Thanks!

Have run these defectors for years, any worry about heat on the rear axle tube isn't worth the trouble, plenty of air rushes under the chassis at road speed. No issues other than wiping the soot from the axle tubes from time to time. Normally wipe them when re-greasing the dope cups on the outer Hyatts ;)

Can't recall but do think used a pair of tin snips and made the defectors fit snugger to the muffler end, and note the double hex nuts to keep from blowing off that end!

My Holden bodied Tarrant tourer has the fuel tank hanging under the spare tyre carrier at the back, so I have even more to keep clean. I welded an extension onto the rear muffler end. It hangs vertically, low enough to clear the back axle and everything else. It looks a bit like the dangly bit under a stallion, but it does a really good job.
