I have a 6v motor horn made by E.A. Laboratories. It is Model F. It had not been run in 60 years. I took the top cap off and oiled the armature shaft top and bottom. I connected it to a new 6v battery, and it works. However, sometimes the armature won't turn. If I move it just slightly, it works. The is a adjustment screw on the cap, which I assume is to change the sound. ANY THOUGHTS ON WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND HOW TO FIX IT ?

Sounds like maybe dirty armature/brush surfaces...? See if you can sand the contact faces to freshen em up

1 defective solder joint or broken wire between commutator and armature.

The adjustment screw will allow the armature to spin more freely and also change the sound of the horn. It should be just tight enough to hear a good honk, but still be able to turn easily.

IT WORKS!! I did three things: 1) Tightened a screw that was loose holding one of brushes. I could see the brush move. 2) Loosened the adjusting screw until the sound stopped and the tightened it until it gave a good sound. 3) Sprayed some brake cleaner on the motor and then blew it with air. I don't know which one worked, maybe all three!

Painted it, looks very nice. Sounds great! Is this Model F by E.A. Laboratories a Ahooga horn? Another question: Does it matter which terminal on the horn is connected to battery positive?

Polarity might make a difference in which way the motor rotates. Test it out. see if any differences.
