Is it just that time of year or is the Model T forums dead ?
Seems no one is alive in the hobby expressing any enthusiasm or interest in helping others.

All clammed up ?
What is it... Thousands of people view this and other Model T forums daily and hardly NO ONE has much input on anything.
Are their cars all done, dont care about being social, 6' feet under, social media distancing ???

Just not buzzing around here like it used to be.

It seems a little slow I agree, but I mark several new threads just this morning. I suppose it depends on what interests you ? What excites you about Model Ts, Willie ? I'll bet if you start a thread about that, there will be plenty of participation !

While I have noticed a slow down, esp with so many people home over the past few months, I would say it is far from dead. Oh for those that are looking as guest, you don't have to be a member of the club to join and post on the forums. The only place you have to be a member of the club that is not free, the car for sale section, but non members can sell but there is a $20 charge for the ad, little less then half the cost of membership.

If you want to get some excitement, just ask, ....... "What oil is the best to use in my Model T ?"
or how about this question, ....... "Should I use a water pump and which one ?"

Or how about, "What kind of oil should I use in my water pump?"

Or how about, "What kind of oil should I use in my water pump?"

You need it to sling grease and coolant all over your engine.

Here's a thought...maybe most of "the subjects" have been covered. After all, these are little cars, not much in the way of mechanicals, everyone's already talked about oil, grease, trans. triple gears, mag rebuilds, rear end rebuilds, front end and steering rebuilds, at least a half dozen times in the last couple of years. Other than what FEW newbies there are....what's left to talk about? Just an opinion, nothing else.

That is what drives any interest in “ General Discussion “.

TWrenn, I think you might have the answer. If there is something I want to learn about a "T" I just Google, MTFCA ......... and a thread will come up with some good information previously discussed.

I think that the model T facebook site gets more action than the forum. It’s faster and easier to post pictures.

I used to post, but most people don't care for my speedster stuff even though it's still T....mostly anyhow.

I don't think it's dead.... I post here for help, reasonably often. Sometimes, it's a little confusing when you get 3 disparent answers that seem to counterdict each other... LOL! but, I agree, photos are the most beneficial, and uploading on facebook,vwithout having to resize everything, certainly is easier.

It aint dead.I just aint had time to play with my T project so I aint had any questions.
But if this were a lawnmower forum I woulda posted a question about a hydrolic lift cylinder on a Gravely zero turn!
Seems the wuhan had held folks up from having stuff worked on until the last couple months.I have been busy fixing stuff.
Worst case I have saw,was yesterday.Husqvarna zero turn,1 of those small homeowner models,the left side hydro was held to the machine with 1 bolt! The brackets had broke in half that held it to the machine! "why is my mower sqeeking?" Pulleys were rubbing the frame!

I'll go start a new one.

I would love to see your speedster stuff. Mine is about half finished and gathering parts for another. I used to build boats and want to build a wood frame ribbed body

Yes, post that Speedster stuff. I have a Speedster and like seeing peoples ideas and work.

Amazing though you all want to see speedster stuff, and that a good friend of mine posts his speedster stuff and damn near gets shunned. It's still mostly model T and very ingenuitive....but it does have an A engine/trans.

Mine is being setup to run an A trans, and has a complete A steering and front axle, but T block with A crank and rods, and Fronty head. Not to many here into that kind of stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I do own a stockish '25 Canadian cut off touring / pickup. It is alot of fun.

I cut my teeth on these forums for 15 years now, and learned an immense amount from people here. It's a great place. I also believe we are seeing another proverbial "changing of the guard" in the hobby. Some are leaving us, fewer are coming, more will appreciate this sector as time goes....just my opinion.

I think the FB Model T pages get more action because that's where new young folks first think to look. Posting pictures here takes me two clicks instead of one. I don't find that especially burdensome.

5 clicks if I want to post a photo, attachment, add file, select picture, open file, place inline vs 3 for FB, photo, click, open.

Look at night and you will see 5 members on and 125 guests.

You can post a question, see over 100 hits, and no responses to your question.

Then there is Dallas and Hank.

I’m on both forums and feel this one is active enough.. do you guys remember the MTFCI forum a decade ago? Not even 10% of the postings this one had. I believe it’s not operating anymore, correct?

The main difference I have noticed between the FB forum versus here, is it seems there’s more experience/knowledge in this forum.

Extensive info and knowledge here and coming in at a great rate plus interesting side notes from people in this hobby.
I wouldn't have a clue how to post a pic on faceplant anyhow! Yet I follow a couple groups there. Clumsily.
I do find the same on another forum I follow. It's late summer and we're all busy right now so it's been slower.
This very depressing year is finally getting to me but I must find ways to...keep my spirits UP!
Shoot, the '18 Runabout is still in a friend's shed. That's wrong and I've caught heck about it.
The T's are out of my focus at the moment due to my overwhelming urge to paint different canvases also.
OT's in my yard take all my time. I should really be out in the little shop, cleaning up an oil pressure device for a Farm@!! OT.

Some only do Facebook (there are several Model T pages), some only come here, and some do both. It does seem that there are a lot of experienced and knowledgeable people you see here who don't do FB. There are also some knowledgeable people who only do Facebook, but not as many. The FB pages have a lot more people who don't know much because they are just getting into Model T's, and guys who are just full of beans but think they know what's what. I get some Model T entertainment on Facebook, but if I have a question I come here. This forum is also amenable to Google searches for previous posts.

every year.

When Ryan bought Ford Barn & Chevy Barn from
Miss Shelly in 2010 - things started going downhill.

When he changed the format a few years later ...

Things really went South

There are a few folks that Live there and monopolize
the forums - a lot of nepotism

There are many knowledgable and experienced T folks who have wonderful information and tips they could share on this forum... but they won't waste their time. They learned years ago that rendering an opinion brings out the hyenas that frequent here.

So yes, in that respect, this forum is dead when you consider how alive it could be if so many hadn't been run off.

I agree with Steve that the “younger” model T enthusiasts might go to facebook first. Interestingly in the the “cyber world“ facebook is known as where the “old people” hang out. It’s all relative. I go on both and also search for answers to technical questions in other places like the hit and miss community. The MTFCF forum seems active enough and generally has a deeper knowledge base but maybe because of that there are more cranky arguments sparked here which get old really fast. Still, I enjoy the posts on the forum and know whose posts to read and which to sidestep.

I will have to agree with Perry. This forum is alive and healthy. We come to periods especially this time of year when things seem to slow down. Perhaps it is our metabolisms or the weather or the alignment of the stars. In past years some of the membership took to calling names and picking fights.
When I think every subject has been covered and every sort of Model T has been shown someone surprises me with a new treat, a different angle or some crazy idea. I wouldn't have stayed interested in this hobby for 58 years if I kept doing things the same way over and over again. The influx of new members over the years has brought lots of great pictures, ways of doing things and enthusiasm. There will be more as folks become comfortable with posting and making progress on their projects. Not many forums have the variety of resources this one does.
I recall the gloom and doom over several years of how the forum, the hobby and our interests are in jeopardy, but here we still are.
If we can't find something interesting here I'm not sure where we will.

I have seen that with guests vs. members. There are alot of OT people the cruise the forums that are not necessarily interested in the stock aspects of T's. I can gauge that by things I have sold and people tell me outright what their intentions are. We can't save them all to be restored stock. There is a rather large resurgence of Hot Rodders. All fine by me, I have my stock T and my speedster--more like Gow Job to be correct.

I am not sure what your beef with Dallas and Hank are. I can tell you (hopefully Hank won't mind to let me air this a little), Hank and I didn't get along for sometime, several years actually. It was by chance we aired the laundry with each other (off the main forum like adults should) and truth be told, the issue wasn't that bad. Hell we even text to each other now and then and he has helped me alot and has some awesome experience. Everyone is different and has their way of doing things. Once you get by that on yourself, you can open up your world a little. You may still not like this person or that person, that's fine and is human nature, but take into account what they are saying. At some point you may actually learn something. Are we all going to be a group of grumpy old guys?


As for me......

Although I have had my T for 15 years, I am still somewhat inexperienced. Coming from the muscle car / and high performance world to T's is totally different. I still come here looking for answers and search previous years posts. This forum has everything a stock T enthusiasts could ask for. You just have to participate and not ask which oil to use . For that matter, most all questions have been answered previously in past years. Do a google search and add MTFCA to the end of it...Bam, instant answers. I remember a days way back when, when the old guys would literally say, "its been covered, do a search"

As to why I don't participate as much now? It depends on my interests. It goes in cycles, I have many hobbies. Do you know how many guitar related forums I am even a member of? Hot Rod or other Off Topic car forums? My god it would be a wonder I could get anything done if I visited and participated every day on all those. Instead, I just let my interest lead me. Past couple years, for me it has been building what is coming out to be a hot little Gow Job. I am sort of cycling back a little to stock T's as I am building a new engine for the stock-ish '25 cut off pickup. Come full blown winter, chanced are I will be on guitar forums....but you never know.

However, I feel my statements are valid for other people on this forum, I wasn't trying to pick on you exclusively...although it probably seems that way.
