Gonna do it !
I love my Lizzie !! But ever since she adopted me (four years come Halloween) I've been nonplussed by the essential uselessness of that cute little turtle deck. Got her ready for a pickup box. One thing has me puzzling. How to mount the tail-light so it won't interfere with the tailgate, and not be mounted so low as to be vulnerable to "stuff" churned up by the wheels ?!? Suggestions most welcome !

On the side of the pickup box? On top of a rear fender?
The inevitable often happens.

Mine are mounted on brackets extending down from the rear of the frame. I also attached a couple of small reflectors on the tailgate.

Re: Gonna do it !
As long as you're putting on a pickup box, why not make it a tilt box? Sure makes battery access easy. My cut-off touring / pickup has custom rear fender brackets, but I'll bet that regular roadster brackets would work.

Beautiful pickup bed, Mark ! Thanks for sharing. Good ideas. I don't really need a tilt-bed, but that sure is nifty !

Re: Gonna do it !
I can wait to see the pickup box. I'm sure it will be a Dandy. I had a similar problem when I built the luggage rack for my Touring. I made a bracket out of plate that moved the light and held the license plate. Maybe this will give you an idea or two that would work with a box.

When did I do that?

When you do it be sure to paint the bed black to match the body, otherwise it will look like you have a huge kitchen cabinet on the back of your car.

Fabricate your own brackets out of broken/junk ones.
Hope this Helps,

Re: Gonna do it !
Seeing the suit cases on the back of Rich's car reminded me of something I saw a while back that I thought was a great idea.

Here is my 23 with an original box. I still have the tail light on the back end of the deck.
