I have disassembled my vaporizer and the float good. Should I replace it just to be on the safe side? I could submerge in gas to check for leaks.

If your float is brass/tin you can submerge it in hot (near boiling) water.....if you see air bubbles coming out of the float it has pinhole(s) and should be sealed or replaced. If it is good ...use it. FYI I had issues with the replacement gross jet float valve restricting flow and causing engine to die (starve) at open throttle......I cleaned and used the original needle valve and that fixed the issue.

I purchased a replacement seat/needle unit that the float activates. The needle tip is neoprene. Is that better than or as good as the normal metal tip?

You guys need to look into Scott Conger made Full Flow float valves. I run them on all nh carbs I rebuild. Should work on a vaporizer too. Dan
He also made a tool to remove said float valves. Works like it should. Dan

Go ahead and give the neoprene needle a try.......if it gives you problems it is easy to switch out a different float valve with the carb on the car.

Rubber tipped needle valves were introduced in the mid 50s. It was determined that the steel needles were becoming statically charged with the fuel passing them and causing small metallic debris to stick to the needle causing over fueling. The rubber tip would prevent the static charge.. If the tank is spotless there will be no issue, however if there is any metallic debris over fueling could occur.
