Need help! Can't remember which position is "OFF" on this style valve. Lever pointed at carb or pointed at fuel line?

Usually, with the valve installed on the car, the handle pointing towards the engine is OFF and the handle pointing towards the fuel line is ON. There is another way to verify it for sure:

Is it installed on the car? If yes, put a bucket under the carb and open the drain valve at the bottom of the carb bowl. Even if the fuel shutoff valve is closed, the carb bowl will likely still drain into the bucket for a bit before it stops. If the fuel shutoff is open, the carb will continue to drain until you shut the fuel shutoff valve or you drain the entire gas tank dry.

If the valve is not installed on the carb, just blow into one end and twist the valve handle, it will become obvious which way is closed.

For most of these, the lever is aligned with the direction of flow in the line, for 'on'. Flip it 90 degrees, so now it points across the flow, for 'off'.

Tim,

I agree with Mark and Dennis. It appears I have the exact same fuel cutoff.

On/open is pointed toward the fuel line. I attached a pic of it in the on/open position.

Off is pointed at the carb.
