Have a look, really nice footage of the travel between The Hague and Amsterdam in 1927, this was the most important route then in '27, it is now 6 lanes highway each way!
Lots of Ts and TTs and other transport of the era !

That's fascinating. Weet je nog wel, oudje?

What strikes me in this film is the same thing I see in films from that period in the U.S. Pedestrians seem constantly to be wandering into the street and crossing the street, picking their way among the moving motorized vehicles. Also children who today wouldn't be allowed to be that close to traffic by themselves, either walking along the sidewalk or darting across the street.

Hey Dick, that is one of the things that i notice too, sometimes even holding your side of the road seems to be loosely interpreted.
I guess the street was 'common ground' so to speak, of course the speed difference between old dobbin and pedestrians was not that big to be a problem but when the car came on the scene that took some getting used to, as can be witnessed from old movies like these

Wow, what a cool video! Amazing clarity for the time. Interesting so many bicycles back then, from what I see on
the International House Hunters show when they feature the Netherlands, often in Amsterdam they are everywhere!
I absolutely love the Netherlands, would love to visit there someday.

Leo, I also enjoyed the chicken walking on the road near the drawbridge at (De) Zweth. (According to Wikipedia, the municipality's official name on one side of the bridge is "Zweth" and on the other side is "De Zweth.")

Tim, I lived there for over eight years. I think it would look odd to me not to see bicycles! :D

Queen Wilhelmina, possibly around the same time:

That is phenomenal Leo! Black and white photos have a charm of going back in time. The movement and bouncing cars adds a lot to it. And being in that delightful country just adds more enjoyment.
This certainly is a great one.
Thanks!
Rich

My guess you would only have to witness someone squished or ran over a few times and you would sharpen up your street sense!
Kids included. Fastest learner's!

Great find - thanks for that nice video.
I was surprised to see that so many T's were driven in the Netherlands - must be because they only had a few small domestic car manufacturers.
