OT Inspiration

Post by Steve Jelf » Sun Feb 24, 2019 3:16 pm

Jim Starkey posted this on the FB prewar speedster page. It's not specifically Model T, but I don't think the sentiment is OT.

Aside from the T, the neighbor had (still does) a 41 Desoto and my dad stored a 32 Ford Phaeton.
I remember the pop sound the clutch pedal made when you let up on it.
Like this one...like to have it now !! :)

I played a lot in the 39 Dodge PU when I was much younger that looked just about like that one till I got my 46 Dodge one ton, but we goofed around a lot in it too. :D I think those old flat head engines started my love a fare with 6's (that includes Chevrolets)
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

I can relate to that too. When I was a kid in the early to mid 50's, my Dad sold the surplus Army Jeep he had for his rural mail route. He had back problems and the Jeep rode too harsh. He bought a Model A sedan(Tudor I think) and used it for awhile. The engine was tired so he bought a Coupe that had a good engine. He put the coupe engine in the sedan and left the coupe in the back yard for the summer. All of the local kids (in a town of about 90 people) and I "drove" that coupe all over the place. I can still remember the feel and smell of that old upholstery. That's what got me to listening to the "old" guys talking about Model T's, Rumley Oil Pull tractors and such. We also had a salvage yard just across the tracks that my Dad worked at also that we all checked out. I was about six years old then up until I was nine. Boy, did I see a lot of very cool cars and trucks go away back then. If we only knew! The seed was planted early! :) Dave

Nice picture. My wife and I still play in junk yards. I didn't know we were supposed to stop.

Around here all of the "Junk Yards" have become "Automotive Recyclers" (read that higher prices). I was lucky enough to find one in a rural setting run by an "Old Codger" say that with respect youngin, I was driving my '46 Plymouth but decided I would stop in and see what was available. Found a hood set of trumpet horns a spare radio and a few goodies loaded them into the wheel barrow the old guy looked at me coming up to the counter and said $15.00 before I got close enough to the counter for him to see everything I had. He said it was good to know that the parts would not end up in a Steam Punk collection. I'll be going back in a few months!
Do it right or do it over, your choice. Drive like everyone is out to get you!

I had one of those Dodge pickups many years ago. One of my sons about 7 years old at the time came in to Dolores and said proudly, "Mommy, I put water in the geasy fruk" That's what he called it! Dolores told him what a good boy he was and thanked him. Next time I got in to drive it, I drove a few yards and It stalled. I couldn't get it to run without pulling out the choke all the way. That is when I found out that he had put the water into the gas tank?
I had to drain the tank, and clean the carburetor and change the oil! What a mess
Norm!
