Need advise on early head.
In the process of replacing my head gasket, I noticed that of the 4 holes that had been drilled for larger head bolts, which had been shimmed back to the original size, three had been pushed lower by the head bolt. Now there are three hole shims that protrude lower than the surface of the head. They range from .021 to .019 of an inch. The head gasket did not leak there or anywhere these holes, but was leaking out the side. There was no leaking into the cylinders; it was seeping out to the outside of the block. My question is, do I need to have this head planned again or will this cause a problem? I would appreciate your thoughts!
