Hi, I have a Model A Ooogah horn. I have to frequently turn the adjusting screw on the back to make it work. Is there a way to fix it so that it works most of the time?

The one I use is also an old A horn and had the same problem. I discovered through trial and error that I needed larger wire in the whole circuit for the horn. I did disassemble the horn and clean / lubricate first. Then later discovered it needed larger wire.

I agree with Jim, my limited experience with a fussy weak model A horn was electrical, not a mechanical fix.

I have found that lubricating them does wonders.

Have you tried the horn with the rear cover off ? If it works you are tightening the screws to tight. Do you know there’s a adjustment screw behind the cover

Here are some photos. If I use a larger gauge wire (red one in the photo) and directly jump it to the terminal block it works fine sounds strong. Using the switch it is weak. If I 'revive' it using the larger gauge wire it is better for a few toots on the switch but then goes back to being weak.

Clean to bare metal on each side of the head bolt and the bracket to get really good ground. Or install a second ground wire. Just a thought. Frank

In addition to lubricating the bearings as others have mentioned, clean the commutator. I like to use a Q-tips sprayed with electrical contact cleaner to do this.

A screw was loose on the back side of the wire hookup. I tightened it up and it works a lot better now, thanks all!
