A few months ago, I pulled the engine from my 25 coupe. It's all patched up and ready to go back in now. Here's the question... if I remove the steering column, can I get the engine back in with the hogshead installed and the pedals adjusted and in their normal position? When I pulled it out, the hogshead was off. I'm hoping to do it all in one shot and avoid having to wrangle that heavy pig back onto the engine while laying through the door opening!

I would remove the firewall too. Maybe the headlights just to be safe.

Do it the easy way. Remove the firewall, and unbolt the steering column and lay it down in the car.
In this way installing the engine pretty much all together is pretty easy. Lots of room to work with.
Others will tell you you don’t need to remove the firewall or the steering column and you don’t need to but if your by yourself it’s the way to go.
I did it that way when I installed the rebuilt engine in my 24 Coupe. Lots of room really helps and remember your not on a production line to get it done quick.
It’s much easier to install the bands make the adjustments and install the trans cover on the bench and on an engine stand than doing it inside the car!

I've installed plenty with the firewall in BUT unbolt the steering column, pull it back & lay it up on the seat or over towards the side opposite which you're working from, leave the pedals WAAAY loose and tie down with rope and get after it !

Yeh, if you tilt the crap out of the engine (almost like a 70 degree angle) it'll go in, but it's a squeeze. Been there.
Don't forget to pack the U.J. ball FULL of red grease first! It also helps hold the U-joint in position to line up to the trans.

Yes, it can be done, as stated I would remove the steering column and headlights and get a helper, the hard part is tilting the engine and moving the hoist and raising and lowering it by yourself. It is easier if the pedals are loose but with some finesse and patience it can be done with the pedals in place.

As others posted, push the steering column up into the seat area or remove it.

No need to remove the firewall, but it helps to have the headlamps removed, and use a cherry picker and tilt the engine extreme and the pedals will clear the firewall.

I agree with Dan. I have not needed to remove the firewall on any T which I pulled or installed an engine. You need a hoist and balance the engine then as you lower the engine tilt the front up until the pedals go under the firewall. All you need to to with the steering is unbolt the bracket at the bottom and remove the tie rod and the bolts at the firewall then pull the column inside the car enough to clear the engine. It helps also to remove the headlights but if careful not necessary. If you have the starter on as shown in the picture, the hardest part of the job will be putting on the nut on the crankcase ear on the drivers side. You can usually line up the U joint by tying a string around it and tie to radius rod to hold it centered and also pack with grease. Before it is in all the way cut and pull out the string. Sometimes you can line it up with your hand, but be careful not to pinch your fingers if you do it that way

After banging up several myself while installing & removing engines, my advice is to remove the headlights! It's easy and may save them from damage.

FWIW, I remove** the steering column, but not the firewall. Have the crank installed. It makes a good handle to maneuver the engine with.

**Meaning, I disconnect it and slide it back inside the car.

'Gotta go along with those who suggest leaving the steering column in the car, but disconnected at the dash and moved to the side in the engine compartment. 'Just installed an engine this way in a '24 Coupe three weeks ago. This was the same as your '25 Coupe will be. The main problem you will encounter is getting the pedals to clear the firewall cutout area. Pushing down in the rear of the engine will do the job. Better with two people doing this.

Done plenty both lhd and rhd.

Never a problem with steering column and firewall in place.

But being an aussie we always try to do things without removing stuff that doesnt have to be removed.
