throttle linkage mod on 27 engine block

Post by Cadjin dex » Tue Dec 01, 2020 5:23 pm

I need to run my throttle rod through the cylinders but the casting webbing is solid there. However there is a recessed portion about 1" squared that seems like it was made to be easily knocked out.. can I drill through it or drill and chisel that area to pass my throttle rod? Is this something yall are familiar with?? Thanks.

They talked about it here.

Maybe there is better info.
When did I do that?

If I were doing it, I would definitely drill as opposed to using a hammer and chisel. I would cry for days if I send a crack in a direction that wasn't intended.

Do you still have the correct solid valve cover panel ? If so you’ll want to deface a hole in the middle of it too. ... #vaporizers

I did my ‘27 Tudor years back. The block had the hole and so did the valve cover but the cover gasket didn’t.

Lang's sells a kit so you don't need the hole in the block. https://www.modeltford.com/item/6299CL.aspx

I would not open the block and valve cover! You have a sealed engine with a proper breather. The most of us have an open engine with the valve cover and block open to the elements. That is one of the reasons that I like the 2 valve cover engines. I did a mod on a couple of engines sealing them with a piece of tubing connecting the block hole with the valve cover hole. It works to seal the engine back up. I would, definitely, in your case consider the linkage option.

Keep it simple and keep a good junk pile if you want to invent something :P

The throttle bracket makes the most sense to me, no molesting of the original block or "valve door" & not having to relocate the small lever on the throttle rod. George
