What is this hole?

On the front and rear doors of my 27 doors there are holes on the top of the door right over the latches. What do they do?

There is a rod in the side curtains that goes into the hole. That is how the side curtains open with the doors.

And that’s only on the improved cars from 26-27. Earlier tourings and roadsters used buttons if I recall correctly

Each door of the Improved touring has these rods for the side curtains. Allows the curtain to fold out with the opening door. The inside of the curtain has a long pocket that the rod extends up into.

The rods have off sets to fit to the hole in the upper door edge, so they come in left and right. One is original the other made from cold rod stock and ground the tang to fit the bracket inside the door.

My install with curtains, locally made at a top shop, with more window area than original, provides better visibility in today's traffic.

The above photo is dated 1926, the photo below is dated 1927, so maybe the pattern grew for more window area? But this 1927 photo is from Canada production, maybe Canada had bigger windows for their touring? Don't know, haven't research side curtains for the Improved Car, but might just be a change of the later T's......they did get upholstery change with pleats in the material but no buttons.

And all this time I've been putting my fishing worms down there for storage! I keep them there for my parakeet too .

Was this style side curtain an option? Not all '26-7 touring cars have this do they. George
