Just to prove I like the gow jobs or whatever.....made one from left over parts of 1/24th plastic Model T scale kits, a try at replicating an overhead on the T block, with Warford, and later wires of course

Dan, I just ran across the term "bug" in an autobiography written by a man named Charles Klessig. Mr. Klessig was born in 1911 in Eastern South Dakota. Even though the autobio was written much later, the fact that he put that word in quotes suggests that "bug" was a contemporary term. The quote below describes an event occurring around 1925-1927. Here is what he wrote:

"...They bought old cars and made them into 'bugs". With an ax they would chop off the bodies of the cars, making them look like bugs, hence the name.

"The body on my 1912 was so bad so I did the same with it. I started to make a streamlined body for the racer."

It occurred to me that terms like bug, speedster, gow, etc might have been regional. Today we communicate daily with like minded friends all over the world. And even now we occasionally have to ask someone about a term used in a post.
