What choke setup you have for a Holly G from inside the cab.

I put a starter on my 12 and it has a Holly G carburator, but with the cold weather I cannot start it unless i choke it by hand on the carburator from the outside. What setup do you have so I can choke it from the drivers seat instead from the front of the radiator or from the carburator. Iām sure other non starter carburators have similar challenged when you add a starter. Description and or picture of how you overcame this problem would be greatly appreciated. Frank

I'll get a photo later but I modified my original mixture rod with a combination choke/mixture under the hood so you can't tell it's modified from the cockpit.

I'm back - here's how I did mine - you'll need to use an NH choke lever on your G.

I faced the same problem when I installed a starter in my 1917. My approach was to duplicate what Ford did in later (1919-21) cars by installing a double lever on the carb (done by Russ Potter during rebuild)[photo 1], a bellcrank with a pull wire to the carb [photo 2] and a rod and knob thru the firewall [photo 3]. I had to cut the rod shorter and re-thread it to accept the knob but all in all it came out good. Since the rod moves up and down a bit I drilled a hole thru the firewall from the driver's side and used a small router to open a slot on the engine side.

Nice Job Steve , Much nicer to drive when you can find the controls. My 25 has a firewall for both kinds, I went with the single control. Thanks for sharing. jw

Thanks - I wanted it to appear original from the inside. I did the conversion to electric start for an old timer w/Parkinson's - he couldn't hand crank anymore and we ended up with his '14 Touring after he passed.

You don't have to use an NH choke lever. Beginning in 1919 the G came with a double lever. There are a jillion of them around.

Thank you everyone for all the help. I just got my Holly g back from Russ Potter a few days ago and had I known I was going to have a problem with the choke I would have told him to put the two lever piece on the all brass carburator. I talked to Russ and he told me to send it back and he will change it out but I think I will go with the nh choke rod setup as Steve suggested. These old cars are as everyone keeps stating, ā very simple ā but the challenges keep coming and challenging us on a regular basis. Frank

Got it Steve, the project is out of commission as you suggested and resume in January. Frank
