That’s nothing special... The left front fender on the T I drive year-round looks worse than that!

I’ve seen T bones over the years and and I can tell you that one has been out in the back fourty acres for lots of years! T’s left in the open don’t last long in the elements. Just the bones.

Really the fender is all there, it's just been "clear coated" The coverage is just thicker in some places.

Neither. I use the rusted panel as a template and cut a new piece out of sheet stainless steel, welding .030 stainless flux weld wire to the treated skeleton.

Our much-admired artist in residence has commented on the beauty that can be seen in patina and rust. This fender has more patina and rust than metal. I bet Rich E. has the picture saved in his "Pictures to Paint" file already.

Bend a piece of corrugated roofing and bolt in place but be sure to use rusty square nuts. ;)

I know this thread is meant as a lighthearted joke, as if the fender is beyond repair and I apologize in advance, for deviating from the fun, but on a serious note, it is not beyond repair. Neither JB Weld nor Bondo epoxy putty alone will work, but a fiberglass repair kit with woven fiberglass cloth and resin would be the way to go to lay down a foundation, using the original fender parts with which to build upon in order to strengthen and form until the fender is strong and ready to shape it into its’ final form. Once you have the foundation, you can shape with a flexible body working rasp, a sanding disc and palm sander and finish it off with Bondo Epoxy putty. Normally, I would remove the rust, but, I believe in his case, removing the rust would totally dissolve the fender, so before beginning the work, I would totally coat both sides of the fender with “Ospho” to neutralize the rust, turning it into a hard black inert substance that will no longer continue to rust and deteriorate. Okay. I’m done. Back to the fun. Jim Patrick

Jim good idea, id like to see it done on a fender like this. Would it be prone to cracking eventually?

I'm surprised by the bunch of you! My first thought was "a little surface rust, other wise cherry!"

Fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin makes a very strong repair. After all, there are entire car bodies made of it, so I don’t believe a repair of this kind, if done properly, would crack. Jim Patrick.
