For years the Horseless Carriage Club of Southern California has had the Holiday Motor Excursion. You probably have guessed we couldn't have it for the first time in 60 years, because of the virus. So, some of our members decided to do the Rose Parade route down Colorado Blvd. on New Years morning anyway. There was just our group, plus several non invited people with later model cars. We had a nice drive, and wound up at the Rose Bowl. Here is a photo of my '13 roadster in front of the Rose Bowl. We couldn't go to any restaurants to eat, so a couple of us went to Top's for a great sandwich, which we had to eat somewhere else. The car next to me is a 1908 Rambler, painted the original color!

Thanks for the picture, Larry. I really appreciate your comments on originality too. And, BTW, Happy Birthday this month.

Thanks for posting Larry. I always check the forum for the post each year about this annual event. I assumed it was a victim of the Covid situation. So glad you were able to get out with a few lovely early cars for a drive anyway. Your 13 looks lovely. I assume it was the one you got which used to be a different less original colour?

It’s nice to see that a couple of people went out. I had read on the HCCA site that the HME had been cancelled, but if I had heard about this, I would have brought out my ‘14 Touring. It was a nice day for a drive...

Yes, my car was painted rather ugly colors in the past. Had I not have had a gallon of dark blue to paint the car with, I would have painted it black! While restoring the car, I found no evidence that the car was ever blue, only black.

My car is much darker than in that photo.

For you folks in other states who think it's always warm in southern California, note the coats. Sometimes when you go to the parade you can see your breath.

All it takes is a good stiff breeze off that normally 60 degree ocean and you have "jacket weather".
You see it all the time in movies set in CA at night...even in July you see people's breath as Steve mentioned. They get a lot of fog too.
As I recall 65 os about tops for the ocean, makes for cool coastal air.

Boy, that's for sure. I lived in Lomita, 4½ miles from the ocean. I recall once setting off Fourth of July fireworks and having to go in the house and get a coat. Meanwhile, folks out in the valley have to run their AC all night that time of year.
