From what I see in Gail Rodda's Volume 2, this low head would be 1913-1917. Am I reading it correctly? Is there any way to pin it down closer than that?

I gather this means March 24, with no reference to the year.

Has anybody ever deciphered the marks on the water outlet? Some are numbers and some are letters.

I have a low head with no markings on it at all. I have always wondered if it is a very early head or an after market item.

Val,
As I researched Canadian Fords, it was clear that many Canadian heads had no markings on them.
I hope this helps,

My Sept 1916 engine had a "high" head which I removed when I installed a Z head during rebuild. I copied this from the 1917 section of the encyclopedia: "ENGINE: No major changes from 1916 except for an enlarged “high” head with greater water capacity."

A quick way to identify the '13-'14 (possibly '15 too) heads is to look at the script. It is much higher and much more sharp than on the later heads. It almost looks like the script is a 3/16" thick separate piece attached to the top surface. The '16-'17 heads' script is much flatter and is sort of "smeared" looking.

Russ that helps a lot. I didin't think anyone would make an after market low head that was otherwise identical to the Ford head but I didn't have any other explaination. Thanks.

This is the original low head on my Sept 1912 Canadian touring , the casting date is above the ford and split by the head bolt one part on each side.As it sits the cast date is not readable. In the summer when the car is out in the sunlight I will have try and read it maybe strip the paint. Cheers Colin
