Spacing of the corner holes is the same is early front spring clip

I would say it is a front spring clamp plate that can be used for early and late cars

It could well be from a horse drawn light jinker.

It was an accessory front spring clamp bar - apparently, the earlier double u-bolt bracket was a "better idea" !

Spring Plate, added strength to front crossmember to help prevent front spring breakage.

Dan, you are a virtual cornucopia of knowledge.

I thought it might be used to lower the front end by flattening out the arc of the front spring. Maybe a lower front end was thought to be more trendy and sporty. Jim Patrick

I have one on a TT chassis that saw hard use. Original pictures of TT's at work will sometimes show these.
