23 T ... There is a metal ring with a lip on it that appears to slide into the camshaft gear nut. Mine is obviously worn out. What is the purpose of this part? Does it hold a seal in place, or is it a seal? Is this part available, and what would it be called?? Thanks. Tommy

That part goes on after the timer roller. It keeps the head of the locating pin in place Under the deformed part of the rim. The nut then holds this retainer and the roller on the camshaft.

Maybe timer cap? Looks like Lang's has it if that is the part.

What I am seeing may have been a shim to move the rotor/brush out. There would not be any brass piece like that in that location. When the original felt seal was installed, there was a brass shield held in place by the timer, the shield center hole went around the large smooth part of the cam gear retaining nut, not between it and rotor. What I am seeing is not part of the cap that holds the rotor/brush pin in place.

Since that ring isn't brass, wouldn't be a piece of the brass shield used with felt seal underneath on the front plate.

Seems it is the retaining washer for the rotor pin which goes over the head of the pin and then the lock nut is fastened.

If you look close you can see the lip that may have gone down inside the cam nut. The part sure looks brass colored to me. Given the location it is being shown in, I will still discount it being the pin retaining cap or part of same. At some point the shield may have been installed wrong and the center was pulled free because the spinning of the cam cut that piece free from the shield, that could be what is left.

Thanks for the inputs. I will look closely at the parts I removed, and see if there is any evidence of missing material.

So, I inspected my removed parts and they are all present and intact. I matched up my metal ring to the options presented. Although it looks brass in color, it is in fact metal. It is too small to be part of the shield , but matches up perfectly to the retaining washer. I think it is just a remnant of maintenance of yesteryear. Thanks to all.
