Removing a stuck front wheel

We have a 1912 front wheel that will not come off. It goes around nicely with the nut, washer, bearing removed. We can not pull or knock off it with a big hammer from the back side. The other side came off easily. I am thinking maybe the bearing came apart but it goes around smoothly. Got any ideas ? ? Al {:-(

Do you have a rear hub puller ? Gently... ;)

you are aware that the outside bearing race is threaded onto the hub? You have to unscrew it!

It shouldn't take much, it may have a ridge worn on the spindle and it's catching or it cocked and bound up...as I said, gently.
Good luck :)

Screw the wheel nut back on backwards so that the castellations face inwards. Screw it on until it is flush with the end of the spindle, that will protect the spindle threads when using the puller (gently). Once the wheel pops loose, you can remove the puller and the spindle nut, then slide the wheel off the rest of the way. :)

Once the nut, washer and race is off, I do not see how anything can hold the wheel in place, we are talking front wheels here. if it is setup as original, it would be ball bearings and the only thing really holding it from sliding off is the dust seal if everything else on the outer end is off.

The outer race is threaded on and has to be unscrewed. The passenger side is reverse threads. DO NOT TRY JUST PULLING THE WHEEL OFF IF THE RACE HAS NOT BE UNSCREWED AND REMOVED.

What has happened, is that the rear/inner bearing is stuck firmly on the spindle. What is REALLY holding the wheel on is the inner dust seal, and since the bearing will not slide off, the seal is stuck BEHIND the bearing. When you pull the wheel with the puller, the seal will come out of the wheel and the wheel will come off.

Now you are left with a stuck bearing and the seal behind it. If you have a later car, the spindle has two flats ground into it so that you can get a puller behind the inner race. This is where the real work begins, but now it will be obvious to you what is happening and you should be able to deal with it.

If it is a later wheel, or early wheel set up with roller bearings, the wheel can indeed be trapped on the spindle. It will come off as I described in my recent post.
