Why not Lang's. They have amazing services for several years as well.

Mario...your post threw mine out when I hit submit!! That happens more often than we think.
What I TRIED to say, now I'll paraphrase is, we are lucky that we have a great number of vendors to work with. They are all
about priced the same. So just go with your gut or your heart, or maybe your "region". Altho I've bought from shore to shore, depending on availibility and how big of a hurry I was in to get the product. Just yesterday I order a part (and thence other stuff too) from Langs that Snyders, who are only 2 hrs from me, didn't have. So I bought further away. That's the way the ball bounces.
You won't go wrong with any of the above named vendors.

Slightly different, there is a good hydraulic drum brake conversion for the 26-7 rear axle available from a guy in California. They especially fit nicely on the Ford wire wheels as the drums are the same bolt pattern

Les i did not know that thank you
I run the disc brakes from Birdhaven they make them these are not always just a bolt up operation but if installed properly they are great.

Haven't heard of a rear drum conversion before.

They are built using 57 Chevy rear drum brake parts and almost “invisible” on the big drum rear axle!!

Sure would be nice to get more info on those large drum brakes. I've seen a couple from a distance but they were done quite a few years ago and never got to see what was really done to make them work out. Have seen 56 Mercury drums used too but no good answers/resources for the parts, pieces, and mods required. 57 Chevy related stuff would be a lot easier to come by. Heck some pictures, drawings and parts identified could be real helpful if the person doing it didn't want to do production.

Les, do they use cast iron replacement drums? I found some cast iron drums for my 17 shooting brake. These were from an English car, a Hillman avenger. The standard emergency brake will fit, but I have a set of Bennett outside auxilliary brakes on them.

With the braking dynamics of more modern brake systems, what kind of stresses
are transferred to the wheels that were not designed for such stress ? I can see
torqueing spokes right off the hubs, that can now lock up with serious brakes. Am
I all washed up ?

I would think the tires would slide well before you'd run the risk of breaking the spokes.

I see the trade off like this. In a panic situation you can either pile into something or risk your wheels!!
I will try to post some pictures of some rear hydraulic drum brakes.
Rock Auto sells the drums etc.
My brakes use some 67 Ford f100 parts available from LMC (nice narrow shoes)

- My backing plate designed around 67 f100
Just found this in my pictures

Les - Those plates look interesting. An original backing plate at the rear of them? Did you work out using an original cam setup for the emergency brake? Would like to know what you did to the shoes to keep them aligned on the front edge (right side in photo). Does that area handle e-brake duties too. This sure tempts me to want to see a picture or two of the completed setup ready to go but without the drum. I know you have other things to fill your life but you have me real curious.
I cobbled together some large drum rear brakes that work but are not as clean as I would like. The F100 brake shoes and hardware came in handy for me too. My two areas that I wasn't very thrilled with were the rigidity of the backing plate (I used a single plate that was thicker than stock but could have been stouter) and the hookup for the e-brake where I used the basic F100 guts and ran a cable that I scavenged from a Nissan. Works but not the cleanest effort. Would like to do better if/when I do it again.

Well, not being as rich as some here, I've been trying to sell some things to come up with the money for a set of Sure Stop brakes for my 27 coupe. Not quite there yet but I will.
So this is my take on where I will buy them.
Birdhaven -- Bill and Shauna, are trying to build a business and have spent a lot of money trying to get it up and running. They bought out Ben Hardeman to get the Texas T Parts products and name, bought out John Ragan to get the Fun Projects products and name, bought out the rights to the Sure Stop name.
Nothing against any of the other suppliers, and yeah, I wish Birdhaven had a good web site like the others do but when I buy my brakes I'll buy them from Birdhaven just to support them and let them know I appreciate what they are doing for the hobby.
I've been in business one way or the other for pretty close to 60 years. I'm in the auction business, the carburetor business, the equipment business and used to be in the Water Well drilling business and spent 40 years fixing and peddling violins and cellos and stuff.
I know how tough it is to work all day and come home and go out to the shop and go to work or to spend half your day on the phone with people that want free advice but will never spend a nickle and then work until midnight to get done what you didn't get done while you were on the phone or answering email after email. Had a week like that. On the phone today so far from about 8 AM, haven't set foot in the shop yet so I'll be there until midnight again tonight.
Bill and Shauna get my business.

3 layers of steel pictured. The top layer mounts to the flange on the end of the axle housing. The second layer is around the flange and the third layer is behind and locates where the 67 F100 backing plate would be.
The internal parking brake and self adjustment linkage is used from the truck. A lever is created to operate it from the stock T parking brake mechanism.
So I get self adjusting brakes and all the benefits of the Bendix design (self energizing both forwards and reverse).
Hopefully this helps. Unfortunately I don’t have the time in my schedule to create this for sale. Too many of my own projects and problems to solve!!!

Les, Completely understand where these would fit in your stack of priorities. I appreciate your picture and notes. Good luck with that C crank engine, should really beat the stuffing out of a bunch of OHC engines.
