Good morning, I found this interesting pan alteration while searching through the parts pile at Eric Barrett's.

My first thought was very quick oil changes!
Can anyone guess the purpose?

I thought all T's did that without the need for any accessory items.

Michael P is close...right side up the spout is on the right. Oil flows to the muffler creating a smoke screen.
I wager Kalamity Dick was involved with development and deployment

What ever do you mean Henry? I’m still using the 4 original quarts of oil I put in my 1919 ten minutes ago!

Its part of the EZC oil level accessory. Site glass is missing or dirty

No question in my mind that TRDxB2 has provided the answer. I could not find anything regarding the "EZC oil level accessory", however, I can see how this large diameter horizontal pipe would provide a large enough area whereby a clear cap on the end of the pipe would provide a view of the actual level of the oil in the crankcase. I'm thinking that the car would have to remain stationary with the engine NOT running for a period of time so as to allow the oil level to stabilize and for the clear end cap on the pipe to have the oil (especially black & dirty oil) to have drained off of the clear surface so as to allow clear vision of the actual oil level. I guess a guy would develop the habit of bending down and looking at the visible level of the oil BEFORE first starting the engine for the first time since "yesterday" or whenever last run.

Might be a good idea, except that due to the fact that I (nor obviously a lot of other "T" guys) have never seen one, there must be some problem with it or we'd all know about such an accessory, right?

It would appear that installation of such an "accessory" would be quite "involved" to say the least! Looks like this short length of large diameter pipe would have to have been welded to the crankcase right over the two factory installed petcocks that are normally used to check oil level. I guess you'd either install the pipe with both petcocks turned to full open position, or, more likely, the petcocks would be completely removed prior to welding installation of the large diameter pipe. Again, apparently this "accessory" never really "caught on" or we'd all be familiar with it. Interesting post however for sure,.....harold

OK you guys. I have this figured out. You take the cap off and hook up a big long hose. Then one guy sits in the drivers seat and controls RPM. Another guy pours oil into the engine oil spout ant the front of the engine. A third guy oils the gravel road with the hose.

See. Things are easy to figure out if you just use some logic.

This is on my 16 valve. The addition of the sump is always packed with oil due to the rotation of the flywheel, away from windage.That way the oil pump is never starved.Hope the pictures show the plunger pump and the sight glass with float.
