To young or not?
Am I starting him to young? This is my first Grandson. His feet can't quite reach the brake pedals so mabe so? This is my 1904 Model T. My Daughter grew up in our 1910 T and my Grandson hopefully will be just the forth owner of that! Gotta get him interested and addicted when he's young.[image][/image]

Re: To young or not?
Pat: Just turn him loose with the T. The brakes aren't that effective even if you can reach the pedals, he's a lucky guy, you both are.

If you are trying to afflict them, it is best to expose them early and frequently.

Whatever the old car, it's great to get the kiddos involved early and often.

It's a 1904 Oldsmobile Model T. They beat Ford to the name! Sounds like a lawsuit

Re: To young or not?
I'll try to show him how to polish the brass first maybe. He enjoys hearing the horns honk on the cars. When people ask me if it's a model T I do tell them yes it is. Oldsmobile also made a model N and a Curved Dash in 1904 beat Henry on that too.

Re: To young or not?
Pat, you'll likely kill his enthusiasm if you start with brass polishing! The horn and throttle are more likely to hook him.

Pat
We need to get you to New London to run that car this summer. Remember to stick with the Ford guys. Stay away from those Maxwell people.
Two years ago when I drove my T back to Milwaukee I could have waved at you as I went by.

Re: To young or not?
Get them involved in keeping the car cleaned and polished. If minor repairs need to be made get them involved - even if it's to chase tools, or teach them things like "lefty loosey" on parts you've found for cheap at a swap meet... One of the first things I was trusted with was taking a carb off a manifold - no matter it was a rather beat NH, I did that, then he guided me through cleaning up the manifold, then rebuilding the carb - I think I was maybe 8 or 9... That expanded to restoring an inexpensive spotlight at a swap meet, then when he went to pick up the car which I lovingly refer to as "Angel" he guided me first through my first old car purchase (the '20 chassis, all my savings at that point!) and then, later, helped me get the old Harley...
You never know what will be that keystone that will turn your kid into a crazy-as-a-coot, er, Vintage vehicle affectionado ( ) but by then I was hooked. You may be amazed to see what you find...

Re: To young or not?
No cutout. It actually has an Intake muffler as that one cylinder is a big thumper. David You'll have to stop by next time you're in the area. The New London run is a great time put on by alot of hard working nice people. I do have a Cadillac and a Maxwell that qualifies for that run too. Might be a good one for my Grandson to get involved in when he's a bit older.
