Sorry this happened to you, but THAT is why you DO NOT put your contact information in an ad. Use the edit and take it out. People can contact you via the system, at least for first contact.

Not posting contact info in the ads helps a lot, read the posting in the classifieds re the other scam. Still will not protect from bad checks, but does cut out a lot of people that are not signed up on the sites things are being sold on, as they will not be able to contact you thru the site. Fordbarn now requires you to have 10 post before you can see some of the classifieds sections.

Between the horribly slow service of the US Postal Service and the possibility of fake money orders from all sources, selling/buying via check or money order has gone the way of the Dodo Bird.
PayPal is the best way to receive payment and FedEx Ground and/or UPS are the best way to send or receive anything of even minimal value. It is virtually impossible to get scammed via PayPal as a seller or a buyer. If you are worried about PayPal's fees, just add that to the cost of the item you are selling, it won't make that much of a difference in the item's overall price.
I always feel more comfortable paying for parts via PayPal and unless I desperately need something, I will no longer go through the hassle sending a money order or check.
If you are afraid of PayPal, you are better off keeping your parts and selling them at the next swap meet. Cash and carry never goes out of style.
