Amazing how good they looked when still new and not yet abused. Too bad the paint wasn't like it is now, and of course, most of these cars probably sat outdoors, or in a nasty old dirty barn in front of the replaced horse(s) with a leaky roof, dust and dirt blowing through the barn.
Those are some nice looking '12s there, and that HAT on the lady in the 4th pic! Wonder how many times it blew off her head!!

Notice how, in these and other original photos of '12s, they all have the fore doors attached. Interesting.

Something else interesting about picture #4: Notice that the horn is black & brass, but the acetylene generator and all the lamps are straight brass.

I remember reading that the black/brass components began to appear in late '12, but hadn't envisioned that the transition would come one piece at a time. That would lend support to the assertion that lamps on a car could have been from mixed manufacturers.

In picture #3, look at all of the wrinkles on the side of the top.

Good eye Dick! I didn't notice it. And it's even mounted properly! This is probably yet another case where if there was still a part left to use, it was used, even if it didn't quite fit the "scheme" .

I agree with RV...it is interesting all the fordor's are installed. Frankly I like the car without them. Had 2 12s over the years without doors and didn't miss them.

Photo 6, they must have some HUGE flies or skeeters, based on the size of the window screen wire! Not sure I want to meet them! :)

That chicken wire is over the propped open kitchen window, stops those pie thieves from grabbing a fresh pie on the window sill

The photos here and in some recent posts illustrate what we owners of 1912's already know: things changed rapidly and dramatically across this production year. Somehow, Mr. Ford got a bee in his bonnet over "modernizing", making trying to be "correct" for this year agonisingly impossible. My 1912, engine number "suggests" April or May production, came to me with front doors. The Beaudette body has the non-opening Beaudette afterthought driver front door that fit into the opening of what would have been an open front in 1911. The passenger door opens properly. I kept the doors, if I was desperate for an "older looking " car I would buy a 1911 or 1910, or seek an October or November 1911 1912 that MAY have yet had an open front, not entirely certain. In any event, the Beaudette afterthought front door is entirely intriguing, a very unusual T item. There were long leather straps from the top to catches at the radiator bolts. I took them off because I am fairly certain that by April/May they had gone to the shorter top straps ending at the windshield hinge, but I may be wrong. There were three different coil/box brands and configurations used, no idea exactly when they changed from one to another. I use a wooden Kingston box with later KW coils held in place with thin wooden shims, works quite well and nobody sees inside the box, even at "shows". There are other more arcane "uncertainties" such as the query about introduction of black-and-brass noted in a post above, should the upholstery be leather or leatherette, etc. So, while trying to be "correct" is agonising, the benefit of the 1912 is that you can get by with almost anything and nobody can really say you are "wrong". I definitely do not maintain a trailer queen, I drive my T's regularly, with chipped paint and grease, but it is nice to be as close to "correct" as possible without sweating blood and tears over things.

I agree with Tom on the many changes in 1912. Maybe no two exactly alike ?

My car is an April / May '12 slab side. One of the things I usually notice is the orientation of the handles on the rear doors. My handles are horizontal when the doors are closed. Photo #6 in this series has door handles but they are vertical instead of horizontal. Photo #4 doesn't appear to have any exterior door handles at all.

As far as full leather interior versus leatherette, my car has its original interior and is 100% leather.

I do have the "fore doors", but they don't fit very well. Beaudette body. Always wondered if they were the correct doors for my car and the frame has sagged or if the fore doors are from a different body maker. I have not found a serial number or a manufacturer name on either fore door.
