Just found components of a Mitchell Electric Gasoline Gauge C. J. Sykes MFG. Company Chicago Patented . It is an accessory aftermarket electric mechanical sender for the rear mounted style gas tank that has a needle showing 1/4 1/2 3/4 full on the tank and at the same time it sends electric signal to a gauge on the dash that has a red lighted circle that reads empty and 4 green lighted circles that read 1/4 1/2 3/4 full. I will post pictures when I receive these but would like any help anyone can give on dates, advertisements or patent numbers.

That is awesome. I've never seen one.
Will it go in your Maxwell?

Hey Rich,
How's it going? I wished I could use it on the Maxwell but this apparently went on a car with a rear mounted tank. The stars must have been lined up for me yesterday. I went to the local antique mall and found and bought the dash gauge. The absolute only thing I could find online was an eBay seller who had the missing sending unit for the tank, waiting for that to arrive next week. They may be the only two pieces to survive and what are the odds of me finding one in Georgia and the other in Minnesota? I'm toying with the idea of mounting the whole thing on a board with a 6 volt lantern battery like a period counter demonstrator. Sure would like to find a period advertisement . Be a great man cave item, wouldn't it? Or I might just sell it.

Thanks to the help of an AACA Forum member we know this was patented in Canada on May 15th 1923. Do any Canadian collectors have any period automotive literature showing announcements or advertisements for this accessory?

That is one of the coolest accessories I have ever seen. I have never seen one before, either.

Thanks OilyBill,

That's what I thought when I saw it. I'm amazed I was able to find the gauge at the local antique mall and then find the sending unit on eBay. It arrived today and it was New Old Stock. Still has the tiny paper tags on the wires and when I hooked it up it works perfectly. I really got lucky on this one!

Your luck is stunning. You better buy a lottery ticket while you are at it!
