After painting the background color, I took my plates to a Fast Signs store where they made the numbers out of black vinyl and put them on the plates for $10 per plate. Worth a try to see if they will do it for you.

Brian Mabry just did these for me.
Beautiful work.
It usually takes about 4 months.

My father is a license plate collector.

When he restores a plate, he paints the background himself and has a professional sign painter and pin striper paint the numbers and letters.

For backgrounds that are not black, white or silver, he goes to an automotive paint supply and has a digital color match done by having them scan a good original plate from the same year for the sample and purchases the paint packed into rattle can.

I had these made from scratch by a local sign shop using my damaged original pair as a guide.
They are the same size just positioned one behind the other.

I used Larry Scott a few times. I noticed he was on the list that Dan posted. Larry does have a "real" job so if you are looking for a two day turn, not going to happen. He is in Denver, but I mail my plates to him even though I'm only about 30 miles away. Reasonable. Priced on how much work he needs to do. I sand blast mine before sending, helps with the cost.

I assume he does plates from all states

Just a heads up for guys in CA. Take your unrestored plates to the DMV to get them registered to your car. Why? Because they won't accept a restored plate.

Other states require them to be restored. Both requirements are supremely stupid. How can they tell the difference between an NOS plate and a properly restored one? They can't.
