I saw this Model T Ford brass thing on tbay, which is surprising, because I have never seen one in person before.

I used to have a balance scale that was missing that exact part, took a while to find one but I eventually did. Not my scale, but similar:

Well, it could be either a Magic Frammis, or a Knuter Valve Reed, or a cannabulator of some kind.
It probably IS pretty valuable.
So I offered him $1 for it.

I read an article some time back about that Model A Sport Coupe with the huge tires. It was put together by a rural mail carrier in N. Dakota or some such place, as I recall.

It was put together as a mail carrier car in Lindsay, Montana in the early 40's and used during World War II.
We sold it at an auction in Havre, Montana about 12-14 years ago to a collector in Bozeman; he bought it partly to keep somebody from tearing it apart to use the Sport Coupe body. It had been stored at that point for probably 30 years without being run. We got it running and drove it through the ring. It sold for $13,000 at that time.
People tend to not understand rural America 75-100 years ago. It snowed, there were no 4 wheel drives, there were no snowmobiles, no Helicopters, etc. There were horses and ingenuity like this, the mail was a very important part of rural life and with several feet of snow on the ground and blowing around there were an answer to being able to deliver it.

That's neat Stan. I'm glad someone saved it.
I wish the Model A guys wouldn't aggressively restore the hell out of everything they get their hands on. Some cars deserve a sympathetic restoration instead of a full frame-off job.
