The roads we dream about and the trips they took us on. Just about that time of year to hit the road.

Tom those are some great old period photos, thanks for posting.
Something neat to look back on when times were much simpler, I will relax and review them later this weekend after I get the dang TAXES done

Been to Rocky Knob, I don't know how many times. It is still there with the same wood fence. I believe the photo is facing N-NW in the afternoon.

Ditto to what Scott above said, except the taxes!!

I already got mine done AND got my refunds direct deposited! Yay!
Tom, these are truly some of the best you've posted so far, so many thanks to all that TIME that it takes! These are cool cause they
appear to span a whole lot of the country. The pic of the little girl with the lady about to cross the bridge on what appears to be a crisp fall afternoon (or could even been mild, who knows), brings back lots of good fall tour memories, but frankly, the lady looks to be an awful lot like the wicked witch of the West!!

The shot at 12:07 pm is about here.
Sometimes I wish there were more space between to comment.
Thanks again.

Being a retired highway engineer I enjoy looking at these photos from all over the US. Back in the 1980's there were large file cabinets full of pictures taken of Central California State and County roads from around 1912 up into the 1950's. I use to spend lunch time looking at them on rainy days. They are now all in Sacramento at the State archives. In looking at these photos from all over the US I see both the good and bad in how far we have come in highways over the last 80 to 110 years of roads. The good is the safer and easier to travel roads of today. The bad is the small towns and small family businesses now gone forever.

The one a few up of "Black Butte outside Mt. Shasta City" is where I-5 runs along that same right of way... BTW, the "Black Butte" is actually a volcanic cinder mound, and yes, it's both black and it's still there... So the original 2-ish lane "highway" is now a 4-6 lane freeway.
And up near the top - the Glen Ellen bridge - I bought my first car at the campgrounds on the beach under that bridge...
