He doesn't look stuck in the mud!

Hang that southern wide track! I need a northern High track!

I figure right about now he needs a team of good draft horses!!

11+ inches of road clearance and he's at the limit ! If he runs into a low spot, he'll need the horses. Right now he's churning along OK.

For all you T drivers who have never driven through deep mud, sand or snow, I recommend it !! No better satisfaction than conquering harsh conditions, and builds confidence in your Lizzie! We can go (practically) anywhere !!

Mud driving IS it's own reward!
That looks like a seat protruding from the side. Perhaps the local school bus?

Sharp eyes, Rich ! It's definitely a "hack" body, in rural Iowa on a bad road, most likely a school bus. I wonder if Iowa kids got "mud days" out of school ?

This is an interesting photo.

If he isn't stuck then this is an action photo. The photographer happened to be there standing in this road to get that photo? I doubt it. I suppose he is stuck. He is wearing a coat and tie but I can't tell if he has been wallowing in the mud to try and get free... yet. I also don't see foot prints around the car. I wonder if the photographer is with the horse team.

I also suppose that it is about to get deeper. He is in the tracks of previous vehicles, a few feet in front of him a third track appears in the middle... can that be from a model T dangling crank? The car that left that mark must have been loaded more heavily than this hack!

Sure is fun to speculate on these old photos ! Good points, Terry ! I wonder about that drag mark in the middle of the road. A Model T crank doesn't hang below the front axle; about the point of having to plow mud with the front axle, the T would definitely be "hung up". I don't believe this driver has had to dismount (yet ?). Anyhow, in those days, folks normally dressed that way unless they were "rough laborers". The position of the photographer may owe to tracks alongside the deep ruts our Model T is following (indeed, I don't think he can get out of them !) Perhaps the photographer is in another vehicle, possibly horse-drawn ?

Rich,

Perhaps an oil drain plug left it's mark there. Alternatively it is just possible that cars other than Model T Fords may have used the road.

Could these be footprints?

Here is another one, maybe on the same road.
