26-27 frame repair

Post by JacolbEdwards » Tue Mar 30, 2021 8:26 pm

I patched a wore out front crossmember hole that was wallered out and tore, any tips on finding the original location of the square hole in front crossmember ? I was gonna pull a string from center of the hole in the rear crossmember cause it is true and clean and pull it to the front cross member measuring down the entire frame from string to inside frame rail on both sides to ensure true center. Is this effective and proper? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you jacolb from south Texas

Dan, is this a “good enough for the girls I go with” kinda thing or does It need to be 10.750 on the money? Will Minute differences affect steering or suspension? Most say farmer John got it together and it’d drive but I am aiming for a as good as I can get, is it worth the effort trying to achieve 10.750?

The hole must be centered between the side rails and also centered in the cross member from front to back of the cross member to make the spring fit properly. Another problem might exist. That would be the frame sag in the center or bent from square to parallelogram. So you need to measure diagonally from same point on right rear to left front and left rear to right front to be sure it is square. Anyway, if the frame is straight, and the holes are centered, the holes should line up close enough to work fine.
