Hi All,
I just took off the heavily occupied (mouse nest) radiator of my 27 Tudor and noticed this hole in the front of the block (August 23). Can someone tell me what it's for and do I need to replace what ever was there originally? Belt tensioner?? Thanks,
John

That hole and the boss with the bolt next to the hole were used for the fan bracket and fan belt adjustment on a pre 1926 T. Your 1927 car would have used a timing gear cover with out that hole or boss from the factory. I assume your 27 car is using a 27 fan, mounted on the head water outlet to raditor.

Adding to what Kevin and Mark said. Your 27 T should have the fan and pulley mounted to the water outlet that bolts to the cylinder head. The belt adjustment is made by turning the eccentric which holds the pulley shaft.

Thanks so much for the comments. The engine is a 23 in the 27 Tudor. It has the fan attached to the water outlet pipe. Now I know. Thanks.

That is one interesting looking timer. Be sure to open it up and inspect and clean it and even make sure it'll work!!

The late 26, 27 cam covers do not have the boss with bolt for fan bracket adjusting as mentioned. They still have the large hole take 1/2" fine bolt.

Recto Timer - I've seen an ad for that one somewhere.

One of the many aftermarket timers to go with the many, many, many aftermarket spark plugs. :)
