Crankshaft Gear

Hello All,

I am willing to change the small gear on the crankshaft to fit with the new nylon gear on the camshaft.
What is the best, easiest and safest way, without cracking the crankshaft, to do this? Are these gears tight fit?

Thanks

They are a tight fit, I do mine in a press but a large puller should work as well, to fit the new one, use and hammer on a length of water pipe. Be sure to support the back of No 1 main when doing so.

I have used the hot oil method to put bearings and gears on shafts. (best done in well ventilated area or outside) Using a hot plate heat motor oil up with the gear or bearing submerged on something so it is not touching the bottom of the container you are using. You want the item to be facing the correct direction so when removed from hot oil it is ready to drop on. Don't get the oil heated till smoke is rolling off and full boil. When item is fully heated, remove with tongs and should drop right on. After it cools check for fit.
Before you install new one, clean any burrs or spots that will interfere with the new part being installed. Do this no matter how you are going to install the gear (or bearing).
