Repop brake light switch.

This morning , the last job on a customers, T is to convert his tail light to a stop/running light. Customer provided a switch from Langs that mounts to 2 inspection door bolts.
I actually read the instructions. They say to turn the cover over if its the embossed later style for it to fit flat. That embossed cover goes one way to aid in band oiling, but ok, it has a screen, so it is not important in this case.
So I strip the cover & paint what will be the top side.
Go to install, it wont fit. (interfers with the screen.) Make some spacers to raise over the raised cover. Ok.
The mounting bar holes are off 1/16." Fix that & install.

My complaint: This a purpose built part & they cant get the hole spacing right & encourage a less efficient band oiling solution.
Typical.
Guys that build/sell this stuff need to try em out.

I've used that same inexpensive switch with the strip over the inspection cover. But used washers and a tad longer machine screws to lift it up over the 'v' and no issues. Works OK for me.
Guess some covers may be made different, fits to mine.

I would think the Fun Projects switch (if you can find one) would be a cleaner install. No need to disturb it when you remove the cover.

I have used FP switch in the past. Liked it for that reason. Sounds like FP products are unobtanium.

Lang's sells 'em for $17.50. Retailers like to double their investment at this price point, so some schmuck is sourcing a switch, a piece of metal, stamping 3 holes in it and bending the metal and assembling it... My guess is his investment is around $4.50, so, he's making a whopping $4.25 for his time and effort. After paying himself for his time, forget about profit or investing in new tooling... and for all that, he gets chastised in public for the sin of having 1 hole 1/16" off.

Would you spend your time making that part for that profit? No, I thought not. I know I would not.

I have the same switch on 3 of my 4 T's...not a failure in 15 years...and who knows...maybe I had to redrill a hole, too...I don't remember laying awake at night worrying about it, so maybe I didn't, or at least wasn't traumatized by it.

Some people will complain about anything, I suppose.
