Couldn't resist

Post by Oldav8tor » Fri Apr 09, 2021 11:54 am

Last Saturday I was invited to the county museum and historical village. They wanted to talk to me about bringing my '17 Touring to the museum for some of their events this summer. I took the museum director and her husband for a ride and it was a good day. There was a wedding going on while I was there and I let the bride and groom take some photos with my Model T. The photographer took a few photos of the T itself, two of which I've attached below. The T is parked in front of the 1870's Loop-Harrison Mansion which is the centerpiece of the museum. It was nice to get out and enjoy a nice day. Gives me hope for the rest of the year. :D

That's a beautiful setting for that great car. Looks terrific.
Thanks for sharing the photos and report.

Yes, a lovely setting for your flivver. I see you have an extra mirror mounted on the spare. Do you find it useful? I have mirrors mounted on the dual sidemounts of the 1929 Hudson but they seem prone to vibration.

Why are we always allowed to park our T's on the grass?

That's a great question David. I'll bet we could post a whole discussion on that.

Park on grass cause the marks left behind are less noticeable and maybe even less damage than on concrete or asphalt. That's my theory. When I visit friends I always try to "hang the engine over" the yard.

Those are extremely frame-worthy pictures! Great job capturing such a fantastic combination of moments to create the perfect image. Perfect weather, perfect backdrop, and perfect T, centered and focused perfectly. You should submit them to “Vintage Ford” magazine. Either one would make a great cover. Jim Patrick

Aw shucks...you guys are too kind. They're probably the best photos I have of the old girl.

The mirrors on the windshield have somewhat restricted view when the top is up. The mirror on the spare lets me see someone sneaking up or pulling out to pass. It shakes a little but not too bad.

The museum people actually asked me to pull out in front of the house for photos. The administrator rode the short distance on the running board, wearing a big grin the whole time.

Neither picture would work for the Vintage Ford. You would be cutting the car in half.

Rule of thirds so:

In the first picture park the car in front of the anchor. There aren't any boats there anyway. Then the car is on the right side and we see all of the house. That way you have a great shot for the cover. In the second picture, just back the car up so it is on the right side of the picture. Imagine a line down the middle of the picture which will be come the seam of the magazine.

I am sorry to tell you, but you are just going to have to drive out there again and take more pictures. And drive on the grass.. Drip a little oil. ........

Beautiful spot, an opportunity to promote the hobby, good public relations with an historical society and the special events business community. Five stars! If we want to promote the hobby, and incidentally create and strengthen a market for our cars so that there is interest in them when it is time to pass the torch, every opportunity like this should be siezed.

This was brilliant! I think opportunities like this are available in many communities across America. I am from Ohio originally, and I remember small town historical societies were everywhere! If you are going to New Philadelphia, check out the Mooney Walther museum. Mooney had personal dealings with Henry Ford.

Again, we should be putting our hobby in front of people by getting involved in things like this. Kudos, congratulations, and cheers! Bill

Thanks Bill....this came about because I let the historical society auction off Model T rides for two couples which netted the museum over $300. I took the Model T over to talk ride logistics with the administrator and they were "blown away" to put it mildly. They loved the car, loved the history and would like me to participate in a number of their events. Needless to say, I will do my best to promote the hobby when I'm over there. Truly, whenever you take the time to let people look at your car and answer their questions you are promoting the hobby. You just never know when you'll plant the seed that sprouts into a new Model T owner.

This is where I expect one of you to chime in with how all the BS on this forum helps fertilize that seed but I'd never say such a thing....
