I would like to build a replica of the #2 Ford car that was in the 1909 race. I am looking for information on how the body was constructed. Does anyone have plans of pictures of the body construction it would be greatly appreciated. This picture is a replica of a car driven in the 2009 race/ jputnam(at)wcoil.com

1975-ish (maybe i was earlier, it was around then) a couple of miscreant Model T Affecianodo's, a heavily mustacio'd guy named Ed, another Ford enthusiast named Larry, and a few other old car miscreants ( ) built a replicant of one of the coast to coast cars, for enrty into the Ensenada to La Paz race... I know one of them tends to frequent here on occasion, and (in my humble and semi-valid opinion) did a damned smashing good job of it.

Here’s an earlier post with lots of photos. Don’t know of drawings, several have built these, Richard Currier offers these bodies already crafted.

Jack, Should you want to build accurate, the axles on originals were ‘wide track’ 60”!

Not sure it is still there, but there was a replica at the Museum in Richmond 2 years ago. Maybe it is still there.

If it's not, maybe they can tell you where it is.

Bill Barth made a very nice copy in 1984(?) for the first re-run of the 1909 NY to Seattle race. Maybe he has the plans yet???

I can't be much help. When we constructed the "Baja car" we did some serious research for accuracy especially on the body and attached components We began by looking at the one in the Henry Ford Museum and then in talking to Bill Stroppe on another topic found out that his shop constructed that car in 1959, so after that we scrutinized only original photos and available info. If I still have drawings or plans, I have no idea where they are.

I thank you all for your assistance. I am really curious about the construction of the area where the angled foot boards corner meets the firewall. In some of the photos it is a flat piece angled from the outside of the body to the firewall and in other photos it is rounded and curves into the firewall. Above all what is supporting the outer edges of the body? The outer edge of body is 5 inches+/- beyond the frame brackets. Too many questions yet to be answered. Thanks again to all.

#4 find those plans please.

Before you get started be sure an authenticate some of the versions that currently exist. There are many differences in the old photos of the original and the museum pieces. Seats, side lights, headlights, exhaust etc. Also there are pictures of #1 that could help as well
