Bendix drive assembly

I have been rebuild some assemblies and most required the balance ring refitted to the drive gear and a new spring and pin in the balance ring. when refitting the gear, there are three different starts on the thread of the drive. Does it matter which start is selected? I can get the spring and pin in the balance ring somewhere near the Bendix spring hole in the drive, but it is not consistent, leading me to conclude that it might not matter.

Doesnt matter. Important that pin & spring ride on top of one of those threads. That pin keeps the gear from vibrating into engagement. If the counterweight comes off it must be replaced back on in the proper position for that pin alignment. If you miss that alignment the pin hole & inside counter bore can be redrilled.
