26 Roadster Speedometer Cable Support

Post by Duckwing » Sat May 08, 2021 1:52 pm

How is the speedometer cable on a 26 Roadster supported? Laying on the tie rod doesn't seem appropriate. Photos of your installation would be appreciated.

I made a bracket that was bolted to the frame and held the cable about mid way to the area that it went into the car.

I had one but sorry, no picture. I believe it was a woven web strap, not leather like the earlier stuff. Speedos were options then.

A bracket or some sort of support midway seems reasonable. That's what I had in mind. A strap of some sort may have been the original way.

For the stewart cable I use a cable clamp & spring mounted to the frame.

My 25 roadster with Corbin speedo required a device to hold it up and also away from the front radius rod. I threaded a cable/zip tie through a short length of 1/2" flared copper pipe, around the cable, back through the pipe and around the radius rod to fix it in place. This supports the cable at the same time keeping it held away from the radius rod. A plain strap would still allow it to swing either side.

Allan from down under.
